Mechanical Properties of Fluids

A Physics chapter of the NEET syllabus, and how to practise it for the computer-based exam.

Exam rules change between cycles. Confirm dates, syllabus and pattern against NTA's official site. We are not NTA.

Weightage: what the paper actually did

Mechanical Properties of Fluids carried 3 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

A submarine is designed to withstand an absolute pressure of 100 atm100\ \text{atm}. How deep can it go below the water surface? (Consider the density of water =1000 kg m−3= 1000\ \text{kg m}^{-3}, 1 atm=1×105 Pa1\ \text{atm} = 1 \times 10^{5}\ \text{Pa} and gravitational acceleration g=10 m/s2g = 10\ \text{m/s}^2)
  1. A.990 m
  2. B.9900 m
  3. C.99 m
  4. D.9000 m
Answer and explanation

Answer: A

Absolute pressure at depth hh is P=P0+ρghP = P_0 + \rho g h. So 100×105=1×105+1000×10×h100\times10^{5} = 1\times10^{5} + 1000\times10\times h, giving 99×105=104 h99\times10^{5} = 10^{4}\,h, hence h=990 mh = 990\ \text{m}.

Question 2 · NEET 2020

A capillary tube of radius r is immersed in water and water rises in it to a height h. The mass of the water in the capillary is 5 g. Another capillary tube of radius 2r is immersed in water. The mass of water that will rise in this tube is :
  1. A.5.0 g
  2. B.10.0 g
  3. C.20.0 g
  4. D.2.5 g
Answer and explanation

Answer: B

Capillary rise h is inversely proportional to r. The risen mass is ρπ\pir2^{2}h, so it is proportional to r. Doubling the radius therefore doubles 5 g to 10 g. Chapter: Mechanical Properties of Fluids.

How to practise Mechanical Properties of Fluids

Chapter by chapter, against real past-paper questions, on a screen: NEET is computer based from 2027. Read the chapter once, then attempt its PYQs until your accuracy stops climbing, and let the wrong answers tell you which lines to reread. If the chapter keeps refusing to stick, that has its own guide. There is also a free NEET mini mock with answers.

Is Mechanical Properties of Fluids important for NEET 2027?

It is part of the Physics syllabus the paper draws from, and NEET 2027 is computer based, so practise it on a screen. Your own accuracy in the chapter matters more than any weightage table: a heavy chapter you already score well on needs less time than a light one you keep missing.
