The figures below were checked against the NTA NEET (UG) 2026 information bulletinon 2026-09-24. They are the latest published baseline, not a guarantee of the 2027 pattern. Check the next cycle's bulletin when NTA releases it.

Biology is half the paper. Botany and Zoology together carry as many marks as Physics and Chemistry combined, which is the single most useful fact on this page for deciding where your hours go.
What negative marking actually means
A wrong answer scores −1, compared with 0 for leaving it unanswered and +4 for answering correctly. The difference between a correct and wrong answer is five marks. That does not mean every guess costs five marks: decide how long to spend using your confidence, the options you can eliminate and the time available.
Duration
Most recently 3 hours. This has changed within the last few cycles, so confirm it for your year on NTA's site rather than taking it from any coaching page, including this one.
What is not announced for 2027
Computer-based testing announced for 2027. The Education Minister's announcement on 15 May 2026 is recorded by Akashvani News. The NTA bulletin index checked on 2026-09-24 still lists the 2026 bulletin. The 2027 question count, duration, shift structure and on-screen instructions need confirmation from that cycle's official bulletin.
What you can prepare for regardless is what a computer-based paper changes, because that part does not depend on the details.
Questions
How many questions are there in NEET?
The verified 2026 pattern has 180 questions for 720 marks. Physics 45, Chemistry 45, and Biology 90 across Botany and Zoology.
What is the marking scheme for NEET?
Four marks for a correct answer, minus one for a wrong answer, and nothing for a question you leave unattempted.
Is there negative marking in NEET?
Yes. Under the verified 2026 marking scheme, a wrong answer scores minus one; an unanswered question scores zero.
