Gravitation

A Physics chapter of the NEET syllabus, and how to practise it for the computer-based exam.

Exam rules change between cycles. Confirm dates, syllabus and pattern against NTA's official site. We are not NTA.

Weightage: what the paper actually did

Gravitation carried 3 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

In a solar system, the time-period of revolution of a planet tracing a circular orbit of radius RR is proportional to:
  1. A.R1/2R^{1/2}
  2. B.R3/2R^{3/2}
  3. C.R2R^{2}
  4. D.R3R^{3}
Answer and explanation

Answer: B

Kepler's third law states T2∝R3T^2 \propto R^3 for orbits about a common central mass, so T∝R3/2T \propto R^{3/2}. It also follows directly from equating gravitational and centripetal force: GMmR2=mω2R\frac{GMm}{R^2} = m\omega^2 R with ω=2π/T\omega = 2\pi/T. NCERT Class 11, Gravitation (Kepler's laws).

Question 2 · NEET 2020

A body weighs 72 N on the surface of the earth. What is the gravitational force on it, at a height equal to half the radius of the earth?
  1. A.32 N
  2. B.30 N
  3. C.24 N
  4. D.48 N
Answer and explanation

Answer: A

The gravitational force at a height h from the Earth's surface is given by F=mgR2(R+h)2F = \frac{mgR^2}{(R + h)^2}. For h=R2h = \frac{R}{2}, F=mgR2(R+R2)2=mgR2(3R2)2=49∗mgF = \frac{mgR^2}{(R + \frac{R}{2})^2} = \frac{mgR^2}{\left(\frac{3R}{2}\right)^2} = \frac{4}{9} * mg. Since mg=72 Nmg = 72\ N, F=49∗72=32 NF = \frac{4}{9} * 72 = 32\ N. Chapter: Gravitation.

How to practise Gravitation

Chapter by chapter, against real past-paper questions, on a screen: NEET is computer based from 2027. Read the chapter once, then attempt its PYQs until your accuracy stops climbing, and let the wrong answers tell you which lines to reread. If the chapter keeps refusing to stick, that has its own guide. There is also a free NEET mini mock with answers.

Questions

How many questions did Gravitation have in NEET 2026?

Gravitation carried 3 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. Weightage shifts between cycles, so treat it as a probability, not a promise.

Where can I practise Gravitation PYQs for NEET?

Explore available chapter-wise NEET practice in BrainIt, free until the 2027 exam. Review explanations and track chapter accuracy to guide your revision. Sample questions from this chapter are on this page.

Is Gravitation important for NEET 2027?

It is part of the Physics syllabus the paper draws from, and NEET 2027 is computer based, so practise it on a screen. Your own accuracy in the chapter matters more than any weightage table: a heavy chapter you already score well on needs less time than a light one you keep missing.
