Weightage: what the paper actually did

Units and Measurements carried 5 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

One main scale division of a Vernier calliper is equal to 1 mm and the number of divisions on the Vernier scale is 10. When both the jaws touch each other, the Vernier scale shifts to the left of zero of the main scale in such a way that 4th Vernier division coincides with a division of the main scale. If this Vernier calliper measures the length of the wire to be 1 cm, the actual length of the wire is :
  1. A.0.60 cm
  2. B.0.96 cm
  3. C.1.00 cm
  4. D.1.06 cm
Answer and explanation

Answer: D

Historical note: this question was officially dropped in the original re-examination because the calculated value, 1.06 cm, was absent from the options. BrainIt's learning edition repairs option D to 1.06 cm so the item remains educational. Working: least count =1 MSDN=1 mm10=0.1 mm= \frac{1\,\text{MSD}}{N} = \frac{1\,\text{mm}}{10} = 0.1\,\text{mm}. The Vernier zero lies to the left of the main-scale zero, so the zero error is negative. With the 4th Vernier division coinciding, zero error =−(N−n)×LC=−(10−4)(0.1)=−0.6 mm= -(N-n)\times LC = -(10-4)(0.1) = -0.6\,\text{mm}. Therefore true length =observed reading−zero error=10.0−(−0.6)=10.6 mm=1.06 cm= \text{observed reading} - \text{zero error} = 10.0 - (-0.6) = 10.6\,\text{mm} = 1.06\,\text{cm}. NCERT Class 11, Units and Measurements (least count and instrumental error).

Question 2 · NEET 2020

Taking into account of the significant figures, what is the value of 9.99 m - 0.0099 m?
  1. A.9.98 m
  2. B.9.980 m
  3. C.9.9 m
  4. D.9.9801 m
Answer and explanation

Answer: A

Subtracting the values, 9.99\ m - 0.0099\ m = 9.9801\ m. Considering significant figures, the result should be rounded to three significant figures, giving 9.98\ m. Chapter: Units and Measurements.

How to practise Units and Measurements

Chapter by chapter, against real past-paper questions, on a screen: NEET is computer based from 2027. Read the chapter once, then attempt its PYQs until your accuracy stops climbing, and let the wrong answers tell you which lines to reread. If the chapter keeps refusing to stick, that has its own guide. There is also a free NEET mini mock with answers.

Is Units and Measurements important for NEET 2027?

It is part of the Physics syllabus the paper draws from, and NEET 2027 is computer based, so practise it on a screen. Your own accuracy in the chapter matters more than any weightage table: a heavy chapter you already score well on needs less time than a light one you keep missing.
