Principles Related to Practical Chemistry

Lab chemistry on paper: qualitative salt analysis of cations and anions, detection of functional groups and extra elements, titration chemistry, and preparations like Mohr's salt and acetanilide. NEET tests straight recall of reagents, colours, and observations for each test.

Weightage: what the paper actually did

Principles Related to Practical Chemistry carried 1 question in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

In a test tube containing a salt, a few drops of dilute H2SO4H_2SO_4 was added, which gave colourless vapours having the smell of vinegar. The vapours turned the blue litmus paper red. Identify the correct anion from the following:
  1. A.Sulphide, S2S^{2-}
  2. B.Sulphate, SO42SO_4^{2-}
  3. C.Acetate, CH3COOCH_3COO^-
  4. D.Carbonate, CO32CO_3^{2-}
Answer and explanation

Answer: C

A colourless acidic vapour with the smell of vinegar indicates acetic acid: acetate salts react with dilute H2_{2}SO4_{4} to liberate CH3_{3}COOH (vinegar odour), which turns blue litmus red. Sulphide would give rotten-egg-smelling H2_{2}S, carbonate gives odourless CO2_{2} (which turns lime water milky), and sulphate evolves no gas with dilute H2_{2}SO4_{4}. Why the other options are wrong: - (A) Sulphide liberates H2_{2}S with a rotten-egg smell, not a vinegar smell. - (B) Sulphate gives no characteristic vapour with dilute acid. - (D) Carbonate gives odourless CO2_{2}, not a vinegar-smelling vapour.

How to practise Principles Related to Practical Chemistry

Chapter by chapter, against real past-paper questions, on a screen: NEET is computer based from 2027. Read the chapter once, then attempt its PYQs until your accuracy stops climbing, and let the wrong answers tell you which lines to reread. If the chapter keeps refusing to stick, that has its own guide. There is also a free 12-question mock on the exam screen.
