Animal Kingdom

Classification by symmetry, germ layers, and coelom leads into the phyla, from Porifera through Chordata, with vertebrate classes and examples. This is the heaviest recall chapter in zoology: match animals to phyla and remember the exceptions.

Weightage: what the paper actually did

Animal Kingdom carried 5 questions in the NEET 2026 paper. One paper is a data point, not a destiny: NTA moves weight between chapters every cycle, which is why the weightage tables deserve care. The stable facts are the paper's shape: 180 questions, 720 marks, +4 right, −1 wrong.

Question 1 · NEET 2026

The flightless bird with forelimbs modified as paddle-like structures suited for swimming is known as:
  1. A.Struthio
  2. B.Neophron
  3. C.Aptenodytes
  4. D.Psittacula
Answer and explanation

Answer: C

Aptenodytes is the genus of penguins, flightless birds whose forelimbs are modified into paddle-like flippers used for swimming. Struthio (ostrich) is flightless but its reduced wings are used for balance while running, not swimming, while Neophron (vulture) and Psittacula (parakeet) are flying birds. Hence Aptenodytes.

Question 2 · NEET 2026

Select the incorrect statements from the following and choose the answer from the options given below. I. Digestive system in Platyhelminthes is incomplete. II. Bilateral symmetry is a characteristic feature of adult Echinoderms. III. Pseudocoelom is possessed by Aschelminthes. IV. Notochord is persistent throughout life in the class Chondrichthyes. V. Members of class Reptilia maintain a constant body temperature.
  1. A.A and C only
  2. B.B and E only
  3. C.C and D only
  4. D.B and D only
Answer and explanation

Answer: B

Statement B is wrong because adult echinoderms show radial symmetry (only their larvae are bilaterally symmetrical), and statement E is wrong because reptiles are poikilothermic (cold-blooded) and cannot maintain a constant body temperature. Statements A, C and D are correct, so the incorrect pair is B and E, which is option 2.
